Halloween (1978), John Carpenter

Genre: Horror
Overall Rating:

(out of 5)
See this movie, if you haven't already. Don't take this rating TOO seriously. Its a classic and, for its time, beautifully made. Its also pretty scary. However, when I make these movies, I try to think of some of my favorites (as a 5) and rate it from there.
This movie was entertaining, did scare at me times... but it just doesn't belong in my list of "omg-i-love this" movies.

The Story:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Interesting
2 Points: Original
1 Point: Unpredictable
1 Point: OMGZ
The opening scene is a young boy killing his baby sitter, and being found out by his parents. We then skip forward in time to when he's a grown man, and has escaped from his institution. His psychologist is afraid he went back to his home town to continue the killing spree on Halloween night.

Characters:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Well-Played
1 Point: Original
1 Point: Relatable
1 Point: Emotional Attachment
1 Point: OMGZ
Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence): The psychologist that stakes out the murderers house, certain that this killer will strike again.
Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis)Always baby-sitting or doing homework at home, her friends taunt her on Halloween as they go out and have a good time. From the beginning, Laurie feels the presence of the serial killer but thinks she's just paranoid.

Believability:
(out of 5)
1 Point: No Disbelief
1 Point: Well-Explained
1 Point: Characters Fit Conceivably
1 Point: Not Foolishly Omniscient
1 Point: OMGZ
ts not hard to believe in crazy serial killers anymore. There's really nothing outlandish in this one.
Weight:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Relatable Lives
1 Point: Relatable Choices
1 Point: "Wow" Moments
1 Point: Lasting
1 Point: OMGZ
Pretty light, if I may say so myself. Maybe a good flick in a series on Halloween night, in a dark room. There's nothing awe-inspiring or thought-provoking to make it stay in your memory long, however.

Visual:
(out of 5)
2 Points: Visual Quality
1 Point: Unique Visual Perspective
1 Point: Special Effects
1 Point: OMGZ
DIt was made in the 70's, man. They didn't go crazy with special effects, it was all pretty straight forward, but I was just happy not to see strings and ketchup squirting everywhere.
