Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008), Darren Bousman

Genre: Horror, Musical, Science Fiction
Overall Rating:
(out of 5)

This movie might freak some people out. Not because its overly gory, but because its probably like nothing you have ever seen. Its futuristicy (yet in the not-so-far-off future), its a musical (tough to find those nowadays, let alone worthwhile ones), and its crazy gothicy. It might not be your style, but it was totally mine, and I don't see myself forgetting this one for a long time to come. It most-definitely will stay in memory. If you think you can handle it, its a must see.

The Story:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Interesting
2 Points: Original
1 Point: Unpredictable
1 Point: OMGZ

In a world obsessed with plastic surgery, a company has risen that offers organs- for a cost. If you can't keep up with your payments, the Repo Man will come and "repossess" their property, ending in death.

Characters:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Well-Played
1 Point: Original
1 Point: Relatable
1 Point: Emotional Attachment
1 Point: OMGZ

Shilo Wallace (Alexa Vega): Born with a blood disease, her father keeps her in the house and on medication. Rotti tries to pull her into the world of GeneCo, and reveals to her the truth.

Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino): The head of GeneCo, he is looking for a heir to his company, but doesn't see any of them as fit (they're all immature and obsessed with surgery).
Nathan Wallace (Anthony Head): Shilo's father, and the Repo Man. He becomes involved in a murderous plot involving his family.

Believability:
(out of 5)
1 Point: No Disbelief
1 Point: Well-Explained
1 Point: Characters Fit Conceivably
1 Point: Not Foolishly Omniscient
1 Point: OMGZ

I give this a 5 instead of a 4 considering I can see this being in the near future (okay maybe not the gothic/musical part, but the surgery part). People are getting so obsessed with physical beauty and cosmetic surgery that we're beginning to lack anything internal.

Weight:
(out of 5)
1 Point: Relatable Lives
1 Point: Relatable Choices
1 Point: "Wow" Moments
1 Point: Lasting
1 Point: OMGZ

Due to the material and chosen method of portrayal, this movie stays with you for a long time. I find myself referencing it a lot, and noticing bits and pieces of it in the world around me (scary). Not just a horror film (its not much of a horror anyways).

Visual:
(out of 5)
2 Points: Visual Quality
1 Point: Unique Visual Perspective
1 Point: Special Effects
1 Point: OMGZ

Definitely not cheaply made, it has some pretty crazy scenes. Nothing too hard to handle, but there is blood and gore and a few parts where your eyes widen to the ceiling. Very well done.
